Plastidip is NOT a replacement for paint!

A recent trend gaining popularity is "plastidipping" cars--coating exterior with a matte rubberized "plastic-y" coating. We like "Plastidip". . . just not for painting cars. It is designed to give extra grip & cushion on tool handles. We've gotten a lot of these "plastidipped" cars recently for repainting. Although Plastidip may look good for a short time, many people find it does not stand-up to the sun, peels when you don't want it to and then won't peel when you try to take it off. Plastidip cannot be painted over with automotive paints and doesn't sand like normal automotive paint. Repairing cars with it has required us to go millimeter by millimeter, chipping off improperly applied fake paint. So if your car is in need of a paint job, we're begging you, bring it to us, a real automotive paint shop where we guarantee our work against peeling!

Plastidip peeling in some areas, not in others. How do you get it off!!?

How to ruin a great car? Plastidip!

1993 Jeep Wrangler Paintjob!

Almost Everything's Car of the Day is a 1993 Jeep Wrangler, this off road machine was dropped off at our shop as a dull, grey / white / black sort of...thing. This Jeep happens to be a project that is going to be both driven on the street and off road.  Knowing that the paint is going to be chipped and dented from off roading in the very near future the owner did not want to apply an expensive factory type of paint.  With this in mind we reccomended a basic "Single Stage" Enamel, a convieniently cost effective paint material.  We cleaned up all of the exterior surfaces, masked off all of the trim and interior, painted it jet black, and finally baked it in our oven to cure the new finish on!

Flat Black Friday

Almost Everything's Car of the Day is this 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. This particular car was the victim of vandalisim, the entire car was "keyed" leaving deep gouges in nearly every panel on the outside of the car! We repaired this problem by first sanding and "feathering" the deep gouges, a process that blends rough edges so they become smooth making them invisible beneath the new paint. Next we applied a sealer primer to the freshly sanded surface to seal it and provide a good foundation for the new paint to stick to. Finally we finished the car with a "Two Tone" paint job---Flat Black on the sides and a Gloss Black on the top! Dont forget to stop by and check out our incredible Black Friday paint specials the week of 11/19/2012-11/24/2012!!!

Hottest 350Z in the World: Matte Black Demon

Heart of Darkness--Stealth Fighter--The owner wanted everything black--so even the door handles and the wheels went from silver to matte black. The finish absorbs almost all light. Our Car of the Day is a 2004 Nissan 350Z with a great engine and, of course, manual transmission. It came in for a paint upgrade. Almost Everything Autobody sanded the car with the value prep package that takes care of minor chips and scratches around the entire car. To paint the wheels, Almost Everything Autobody put the car on jack stands and removed the wheels so we could sand and paint both sides without fouling the brakes or suspension bits. The customer decided on Almost Everything Autobody's Flat-Matte black paint single stage paint service. We also offer Matte/Flat finishes in 2-stage, base coat/clear coat service that is even more durable and can be had in virtually any color. This car looked and sounded great. We loved having it at the shop.

Sanity-Impaired? New Ice Speed Record

Bentley Supersport Ice Speed Record Edition
Here's something that would have never crossed our minds.

Autoblog is reporting Bentley's celebration of an impressive but, let's be honest, completely insane achievement with a new special edition Continental Supersport called the "Ice Speed Record" Convertible.

Who would have imagined that there are actually people trying to set records for who can go the fastest in an automobile on a frozen lake or, in this case, the Baltic Sea? Finnish ice racer (and rally star) Juha Kankkunen has just set the new record of 205.48 miles per hour (330.695 km/h) in a Bentley Continental Supersport Convertible. When I think of ice speed records, I always imagine doing it in a convertible. . . Actually, I suppose it does make some sense. You could get out of the car more quickly when the ice breaks and you plunge into the freezing water in a quickly sinking vehicle (see our article on how to escape sinking cars.)

What makes this achievement all the more incredible (or ridiculous) is that Juha was beating his own record set in another Bentley Continental in 2007 at 199.83 mph (321.6 km/h.)

Probably not a sport we'll take up any time soon. We're too busy curling.

None-the-less, congrats to Juha and Bentley. We hope this record stands for a very long time.

M600 Supercar Ready for Primetime

Noble M600
Noble Automotive has released production photos of its latest & greatest M600 Supercar. According to the lads at Top Gear,  the M600 is made in Britain, has a Yamaha V8 sourced from, of all places, Volvo and goes like stink. Noble does its magic to make a powerplant capable of 650 bhp, 604 lb ft of torque and 225 mph (360 kph.) Autocar tested it to 120 mph in 8.9 seconds. All of this AND it looks better and costs less than a Bugatti Veyron (and just to be fair, we should note that the Bugatti has a Volkswagen engine.)
