Why? Because Race Car!

Almost Everything's Car of the Day is a 1991 Mazda Miata. This is not your average Mazda Roadster, it is one of a fleet of Miatas that belong to Mr. Larry Oka, a local professional racing instructor! When he dropped this car off at our shop it looked terrible with many mismatched and unpainted body panels. We began with our basic prep, which is included with every one of our paint jobs; Chemically cleaning, Scuffing with an abrasive pad, and Masking all trim/windows so they wont get paint or "over spray" on them. Mr. Oka requested that we paint the car a very specific Ford Orange with our Enamel + UV protectant paint for an extremely bright and glossy finish that will stand out on the track for years to come!

Typical Thursday Afternoon

Almost Everything Autobody is in a suburb of San Francisco, California. The video below shows what we San Franciscans do on Thursday afternoons. San Francisco shuts down the bridges and city streets to have a little fun. . .

And for those who are unsure. Yes, this really happened--it's not computer animation--and no, we don't really shut down the city every Thursday but, hey, it's an idea!

ALMOST EVERYTHING'S CODY THOMPSON WINS NASCAR FALL CLASSIC

Almost Everything's very own Cody Thompson took fast-time and led the final 16 laps to win the prestigious Fall Classic for NASCAR Modifieds on October 12, 2012 at Roseville, California's All American Speedway.  Friday's win is Thompson's second of 2012 in a season that saw him finish fourth in the NASCAR California State points.

"I was happy to finish off the season on a high note with all the hardship we have come across," Thompson said, referring to a blown engine and mechanical issues earlier in the season."This win was a much needed win for CTR and Eclipse Racing."

Thompson started the 50 lap contest in sixth position. The 19 year-old jumped into third position by lap three. One lap later, Thompson passed Keegan Walmer to take over second. Thompson's focus shifted to Eclipse Racing teammate Jay Linstroth. Thompson chased down Linstroth and after looking high and low for several laps, Thompson completed the pass for the lead on lap 34. The final 16 laps of the race saw Thompson fend off a late charge from Walmer to take a .325 second victory at the checkered flag.

Despite a season with some bad luck, Thompson has accumulated ten top-fives and 14 top-tens in 22 starts.  His other victory this season came on June 30 at Stockton 99 Speedway.

With four Modified wins and three USAC Ford Focus wins over the last three seasons, Thompson's focus will turn to Late Model competition. The October 19-20, 2012 Stockton 99 Speedway "Fall Classic" for Late Models will be Thompson's debut and is scheduled for 100 laps. "I'm excited to finally race a Late Model and have my debut at the Stockton Open Show," Thompson said.  "I look forward to the challenge and competition in this division."

Fastest 1957 Pontiac In The World

Happy Labor Day! To celebrate, our good friend, Mark Crutcher, gave us some recent photos of his 1957 Pontiac Chieftain 2-door hardtop. This is the same car featured in High Performance Pontiac. Mark claims it is the fastest 1957 Pontiac in the world with stock suspension designed in 1940 and a genuine Pontiac engine. To back-up the claim, he points to his 1/4 mile times at Speedworld Dragstrip in Whittmann, Arizona: 11.51 seconds at 114.39 mph--about the same as a McLaren F1, Ferrari 458 Italia,  Ford GT, Nissan GT-R, or Porsche 911 Turbo. We won't argue.

What's IN that thing?!! A 455 cubic inch Pontiac engine, bored to 470.

Thanks, Mark!
