Could This Be the Same Truck?

Very faded 1993 Dodge Dakota before complete paint job at Almost Everything Auto Body.

Our Car of the Day is a truck, a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup that looks like it needed new paint 10 years ago. The good news is that except for the very faded paint, the body and mechanical parts of the truck were in decent condition and it took very little work to make it look great again. We didn't fix any dents. We just painted the truck. The Dakota shows a great example of our very economical Enamel single stage paint.

Rear Ended Camry with Bumper Damage

Toyota Camry with rear end damage from collision before repairs at Almost Everything Auto Body.

This Toyota Camry was hit from the rear and is our Car of the Day. We disassembled the bumper to check for hidden damage and managed the process with Travelers Insurance to ensure that everything was repaired properly.

Often in a minor accident, if people don't see a big dent they think there is no significant damage. As these photos show, there was little obvious damage at the impact point because the plastic bumper was able to flex then pop back into shape. However when you look around the edges the bumper no longer fits properly and inside the trunk there are broken fasteners. There could be even more damage underneath the panel. So it is a great idea to exchange insurance information even in the most minor accidents.

Close-up of Damage:
Panels don't align after accident.

Close-up of Damage:
Large gap that is not visible from exterior is obvious inside trunk. Retainer is broken.

Reviving Old 2-Tone Cars

2-Tone vehicle repainted in single color at Almost Everything Auto Body.

In the 1980s and 1990s two-tone cars were all the rage and showed that a vehicle was a premium model. Multiple colors on a car takes more material and labor. So it naturally costs more. But what do you do when one of these 20-30 year old cars needs to be repainted? Options include repainting both colors, repainting only the top color which is often more faded, painting only the bottom color which can be more prone to scrapes, or repainting the entire car in just one color. Almost Everything's Car of the Day is a 1996 Mazda MPV that was faded & peeling on top and scraped on the bottom. So both of the 2-tone colors had problems. The owner decided to paint the entire vehicle one color to save money and recover a vehicle that still drove well but looked a mess.
